Ward wise mapping of high-risk areas in the jurisdiction of village panchayats and municipal council and activation of village water and sanitation committee, garbage management committee and village health, sanitation and nutrition committee were some of the key decisions at the meeting of the Bardez block committee for vector-borne diseases.
It was also decided to review the compliance of government buildings which included the government office complex, police station and fire services in preventing and controlling vector-borne diseases.
To safeguard people against vector-borne diseases, it was decided to take up Information, Education and Communication activities (IEC) in electricity department office buildings, civil court complexe, district hospital and ITI in the first phase.
A focus would also be laid on the Mapusa municipal market.
Bardez Deputy Collector Sneha Gitte chaired a meeting of the Bardez block committee for the control of vector-borne diseases in her office at the government complex in Mapusa.
Health and sanitary officers attached to all the health centres in Bardez and representatives of PWD (water supply), electricity department, Mapusa Merchants’ Association and a member of GOACAN among others were present for the meeting.
In another key decision, the meeting resolved to compile data on private buildings having housing societies/resident welfare associations/maintenance associations.
To control the vector-borne disease at construction sites, it was also decided to review the compliance of licence/NOC display boards at all construction sites and ensure effective data management of health cards issued to migrant construction workers.
It was also decided to compile a list of registered labour contractors in the area.
A decision was also taken to strengthen the network of nodal teachers/officers and their effectiveness to prevent & control vector-borne diseases.
The second round of advocacy workshops will be held in July during the dengue prevention campaign.
