The Candolim Primary Health Centre (PHC) Health Officer Dr Roshan Nazareth informed that 27 of 34 persons who tested positive in his jurisdiction were workers from the Pilerne Industrial Estate.

“We have shifted some of the workers to the Covid care centre and some have been kept in isolation,” Dr Nazareth said.

He said shifting these outstation workers in the Covid care centres puts a strain on the health infra, depriving locals an opportunity of beds at the centres. “We have requested the companies, where the workers are employed, to make some arrangement in hotels so that they can be kept in isolation,” the health officer said.

According to the Candolim health officer, the positive cases were reported from the following areas “ Reis Magos (2), Calangute (3), Pilerne (21), Saligao (6) and Arpora (2).

Porvorim PHC suspends testing for 2 days

PORVORIM: The Porvorim Primary Health Centre (PHC) has suspended the testing of samples for Covid on Saturday and Sunday due to shortage of manpower.

“Since four of our staff members have contracted Covid and with testing of samples still pending, the PHC has suspended the testing operation for two days, Saturday and Sunday,” said a PHC official.

“Testing will resume from Monday. If people, especially senior citizens, develop fever or other symptoms, they should get themselves checked immediately. If they are Covid positive, they should get admitted in hospital instead of opting for home quarantine.”

“Facilities for oxygen supply and ventilator are not available at home and hence, citizens may not get the required treatment at home.”

“Since the government has been very liberal, almost everyone, including those residing in slum areas, have started opting for home quarantine. When patients turn serious, they are then shifted to the hospital, which is of little use,” the official added.
