Upping the ante against grants to English medium primary schools, the members of Bhartiya Bhasha Suraksha Manch (BBSM) Bicholim protested in front of Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar during the inaugural function of 'Jyotirmay LED bulbs scheme' at Bicholim Municipal Council (BMC) office on Sunday.

About 30 agitators were waiting for Parsekar’s arrival by holding black flags in their hands and shouting slogans to stop grants to English medium primary schools.

When the chief minister arrived, the agitators intensified their slogan shouting; however, Parsekar who was in a hurry to attend the function, went directly to the venue.

When Parsekar stood to address the gathering, the agitators started shouting slogans loudly, disturbing his speech. However, the chief minister continued his speech, unmindful of the agitators.

When the function ended, Parsekar straightaway went to the agitators and asked them what their say was. The agitators told him that he should immediately stop grants to English medium primary schools.

The chief minister told the agitators that the government was keen on encouraging government primary schools and other schools running in Marathi and Konkani languages and hence the agitation does not serve any purpose.

The agitation was led by BBSM president Srikrishna Dhond, Mahesh Mhambrey, Mukund Kauthankar, Yeshwant Sawant, Dhiraj Sawant, Nityanand Malgaonkar, Bholanath Gad, Omkar Kerkar, Ajay Pawaskar and others.

The BBSM activists from Karapur and Sakhali also showed black flags to Chief Minister Parsekar when he had gone to Karapur-Tisk to attend the function of Jyotirmay LED bulbs on Saturday.
