MAPUSA
The Bardez unit of the Bharatiya Basha Suraksha Manch (BBSM) on Thursday evening protested against South Goa MP Narendra Sawaikar for making allegations against RSS chief Subhash Velingkar and hit out at the BJP-led government for yielding to the English lobby.
BBSM member Abay Samant censured the BJP for refusing to stop grants to English medium primary schools.
“The South Goa MP’s outburst against Subhash Velingkar was uncalled for and in very poor taste,” Samant said.
Malsakant Deshpande, secretary of Vidyabharti, condemned the allegations made by Sawaikar against Velingkar.
“It’s sad that a person of Velingkar’s calibre, who has groomed the BJP in the State, is being ridiculed in such a manner,” Deshpande said.
The BBSM members later trampled a picture of South Goa MP Narendra Sawaikar in a sign of protest.
According to sources, the BBSM members had planned to burn an effigy of Sawaikar near the Hutatma Chowk. But a large police force dissuaded them from taking the step.
Some Mapusa BJP Mandal members were also present and watching the scene from a distance.
