BBSM meets at Ponda
PONDA: MG Party general secretary and Ponda MLA Lavoo Mamledar extended his support to the Bharatiya Bhasha Suraksha Manch (BBSM) by participating in its token hunger strike near Dada Vaidya Chowk at Ponda on Saturday.
The BBSM has been demanding withdrawal of government grants to English medium primary schools and had given the government a deadline of June 2, to stop the grants, failing which it had threatened to intensify its agitation.
Speaking to media persons, Mamledar said primary education should be in the mother tongue and hence, he had supported the BBSM.
Former MLA Mohan Amshekar said primary education is taught in mother tongue everywhere in the world. “But here in Goa, the State government is favouring English,” Amshekar said.
