The Goa Public Service Commission (GPSC) has recommended nine candidates for the post of Block Development Officers (BDO), who were among 54 candidates who qualified for the final interview round.
The GPSC, last November, advertised ten positions of BDO in the Personnel Department of the Goa government to which it received around 4,000 applications.
After a pre-screening exam and a screening exam held subsequently, 54 candidates qualified for the interview which was held over a period of three days at the commission office. GPSC Chairman Jose Manuel Noronha informed that nine candidates were recommended while one post for PwD remained to be filled for want of candidates.
Interestingly, the educational qualification of the selected candidates varies from a doctorate in Commerce to engineer from IIT Madras, postgraduate in Geology, and Engineers from different colleges in Goa.
“In recent years and particularly after Covid, highly qualified candidates have shown keen interest in joining government service mainly on account of the stability in
addition to the usual perquisites that come along with regular appointments. The BDO position along with others such as Mamlatdar, Tax Officer and technical officer is the feeder grade for promotion into the much sought after junior scale officers’ position which offers diverse roles that these officers may play in their careers,” Noronha said.
Recently, the Commission recommended 20 candidates for the position of JSO and 10 candidates for the position of Mamlatdar, all of which were accepted by the government following which offers of appointments were issued to the selected candidates.
