Gaude convened a meeting in the deputy collector’s office and reviewed preparations to tackle any disaster-like situation in Ponda taluka. Deputy Collector Navnath Naik, Mamlatdar Joao Fernandes, Joint Mamlatdar Bhiku Gawas, Medical Superintendent Dr Pradeep Shinkre, police, PWD officials, Ponda Municipal Council (PMC) officials, a BDO representative and other officers were also present.
The last meeting was convened in March. As the representative from the Block Development Office couldn’t submit his report on the cleaning of drains in village areas, Gaude sought to know who should be held responsible.
“Three months have passed since our last meeting, but till now the drains have not been cleaned. You are from the government and I am also from the government. Tell me, whom you are holding responsible for this?” Gaude asked.
Gaude said preparations for monsoon-related works should start from April itself. “How you can wait till the monsoon arrives and tell us work is not even started? Why people should suffer because of your unplanned works?” he questioned.
He also said engineers and supervisors concerned should monitor the works undertaken by contractors, and should submit a report if it is not undertaken adequately.
