The incident occurred on Thursday evening when parts of Colva, including the police station area, were hit by a power outage. Sadly, the police station had no facility of an inverter to carry out routine functions as the power failure bought to a halt all operations.
Colva-based social activist, Judith Almeida cried foul over the absence of basic amenities at the Colva police station. “When Colva village has been prone to power outages, it was incumbent on the police department to provide an inverter to the Colva police station to ensure that routine functions are not held up for want of power supply,” Judith said.
Pointing out that the Colva police station has jurisdiction over the entire coastal belt, right from Cavelossim to Varca, Benaulim, Colva, Betalbatim and Majorda, the activist demanded that the government equip the police station with basic facilities, including an inverter to carry out day-to-day functioning.
