While the city approach roads, including the Belagavi-Goa road, are being taken up for repairs, Belagavi city is getting a facelift in wake of the Winter Session of the State Legislature that will be held in Belagavi between December 9 and 21.
Preparations are in full swing for the 10-day session which is held at the Suvarna Vidhan Soudha, about 12 km from the city every year.
Amid the repairs, cleaning and reconstruction of the main city roads, the approach roads to the city, including the Belagavi- Goa road via Chorla, is likely to be repaired as the potholes have been asphalted in the 10 kms between Kankumbi to Jamboti and beyond.
The district administration has taken up the work of repairs of the city roads and painting of the dividers on priority. Workers were seen engaged in cleaning and levelling the potholed stretches of all the main city roads.
“No one heeds to our demands for almost 11 months, however, as the Winter Session arrives, everyone wakes up suddenly, as if from deep slumber and starts working on the basic civic amenities which is little surprising but a welcome change,” a citizen remarked.
Although crores of rupees have been spent on implementing the Smart City scheme, most of the roads in the city are not in good condition.
Now that the winter session of the state legislature is about to begin, the roads are being cleaned and repaired. In addition to keeping these roads clean by clearing trees and painting the dividers and bridges on these roads, attractive colours are also being given to the public enclosure walls on the main roads.
The administration has started working to ensure that no problems arise on the occasion of the winter session to be held from December 9 to 20 and that the session runs smoothly.
