The bypass on the Belagavi-Panaji NH4A connecting the NH4 at Macche-Halga and the proposed Ring Road around Belagavi city has hit another major road block as the Maharashtra Ekikaran Samiti (MES) has organised a mega rally in Belagavi on November 28.
A memorandum in this regard was submitted to Belagavi Police Commissioner Dr M B Borlingiah in this regard.
The farmers and MES leaders have alleged that the bypass and the proposed ring road will require thousands of acres of fertile land owned in small holdings by the farmers who would be left landless if it is implemented.
“A mega tractor and tempo rally will be held to strongly oppose the proposed Ring Road and the ongoing bypass due to which farmers will be left starving in case their land holdings are acquired. Farmers in about 34 villages across the proposed Ring Road would be losing their fertile land and their livelihood,” former MLA Manohar Kinekar told media persons.
Through the memorandum the MES leaders and farmers have warned the Karnataka government to withdraw the notification for acquisition of lands that was published in the local newspapers, or else they would stage a fierce agitation for the rights of survival of the farmers. Accordingly the tractor and tempo rally would be held in front of the Deputy Commissioners office, the leaders have said.
Police Commissioner Dr Borlingaih who urged MES leaders to observe restraint assured that the memorandum would forwarded to the state authorities.
Prakash Margale, former mayor Shivaji Sunthkar, Vikas Kalghatagi, Adv M G Patil, Committee workers including Sudhir Chavan were present.
