Residents of Belem in Navelim village on Friday hit the streets again to oppose the installation of a mobile tower near the traffic signal on National Highway 66.
Aam Aadmi Party leader Pratima Coutinho also joined the protestors to convey a message loud and clear to the government agencies that the people will oppose the project tooth and nail at the site.
Pointing out they are not opposed to the mobile tower per se, the residents demanded shifting of the tower to a place where there is no human habitation.
Addressing the media, Pratima pointed out that the government should not bulldoze the project against the wishes of the people. She said the agencies are trying to install the tower through lies and falsehood by saying that the foundation is being laid for a high mast. “We want the agencies to understand that the people of Navelim will not allow the tower to become a reality at the site in question,” she said.
The residents pointed out that they had approached the Navelim MLA Ulhas Tuenkar with a plea to look out for an alternate site.
