While changing rooms, toilets and parking amenities is expected to take shape at a cost of Rs 4 crore in on tourism property at world famous Colva and Benaulim beaches, similar facilities will become a reality in Varca and Cavelossim only if the local panchayat body secures NOCs from private land owners for want of property in these two villages.
This became evident when Benaulim MLA Churchill Alemao along with tourism officials and respective village sarpanchas inspected the beach belt in his
constituency, beginning from Colva to Benaulim, Varca and Cavelossim. While the officials maintained that their brief is to only find land availability to install the changing rooms and toilets across the Benaulim beach belt, the Benaulim MLA told the officials to take up the contaminated Colva creek for desilting and beautification to introduce boating facilities.
Officials told The Goan that Colva and Benaulim should not have any problem in getting the changing rooms and toilets on the Tourism department property. The changing room and toilet block with Sewage Treatment Plant facility will come up near the old life guard tower near the children's park. Churchill has told the officials to beautify the park with all amenities and also plant coconut saplings. "Colva creek beautification is a major issue and I want the Tourism department to take up the project under the tourism scheme. The creek can be used for boating," Churchill said.
Colva Sarpanch Anthony Fernandes along with panch members submitted a detailed memorandum to the tourism officials to provide a host of amenities at the world famous Colva beach. The memorandum demanded beautification of the round-about, replacement of the fountain at the Colva beach square, replacement of pavers, maintenance of children's park and installation of equipments in the park, construction of changing rooms, et al.
As per the tourism proposal, Colva will get changing rooms and toilets, illumination, footpaths, widening of the water nullah, etc. While neighbouring Benaulim will get toilets, changing rooms and parking lot.
