Canacona police arrested a 41-year-old Bengali musician on charges of possessing drugs valued at Rs 4.25 lakh at Galgibaga beach in the wee hours of Saturday.
According to Canacona PI Pravin Gawas, Tripid Nandy, a musician hailing from Kolkata was intercepted near the Galgibaga church between 3 am and 4 am, in possession of 0.90 gms of LSD valued at Rs 4.2 lakh, 4.57 gms of charas valued at Rs 4,500 and 7.74 gms of ganja valued at Rs 800.
The raid was conducted by a Canacona Police team led by PSI Swadesh Desai and comprising Head Constable Gautam Desai, PCs Dhananjay Desai and Akshay Naik. Police said the accused had been staying at a house in Galgibaga.
The drugs have been seized by Canacona police and Nandy has been arrested under the NDPS Act.
PSI Dhiraj Devidas is investigating the case under the supervision of Canacona PI Pravin Gawas, Quepem SDPO Kiran Poduval and SP (South) Pankaj Kumar Singh.
This is the second major drugs seizure in Canacona taluka within a fortnight after the Canacona police had arrested a Tamil Nadu native with 3.680 kgs of ganja valued at Rs 3.68 lakh at Ourem-Palolem in a midnight raid on November 23.
Stating that police is working to make Canacona a drugs-free taluka, Canacona PI Gawas had sought public assistance and cooperation in this regard.
