A 27-year-old tourist from Bengaluru had a narrow escape after accidentally falling into a roadside well at Vagator in the early hours of Friday and surviving by clinging to an inner masonry ring until firefighters rescued him.

The incident occurred around 2 am when Ketan Raj was reportedly returning from a nightclub with friends. According to sources, the group is suspected to have been under the influence of alcohol or other intoxicants, though this has not been officially confirmed.

Raj allegedly drifted towards the roadside and, in the darkness, failed to notice the open well before plunging several feet. His friends raised an alarm, prompting residents to alert the Mapusa Fire and Emergency Services.

Fire personnel used ropes and safety equipment to rescue Raj, who sustained injuries in the fall. He was shifted to a nearby hospital, where his condition is stated to be stable.
