Benjamin says Jason should get justice

Velim MLA Benjamin D’Silva, who called on Sub-divisional Police Officer, Margao, along with Fisheries Minister Avertano Furtado at the district police headquarters on Tuesday noon, said people of Dicarpale say the problem could have been avoided had the police promptly arrested accused Avinash Gunjekar after assaulting the football player.

MARGAO:
While Avertano claimed that he had called on the DySP with some other problem, Benjamin was forthright in saying that he has not come to the police headquarters for a compromise, but to demand justice to the victim Jason Vales and the people. “I had visited Dicarpale last night itself after the incident and the police lathi charge. People have told me that the situation could have been avoided if the police were prompt in arresting accused Avinash. People reacted violently to the assault incident after they blamed the police for their failure to nab the accused,” Benjamin said.
Making it clear that violence was not justified, the Velim MLA said it could have been avoided. “At the same time, one cannot justify an attack on the police,” Benjamin said, while demanding stern action against the accused.
