Former North Goa District Congress Committee President, Vijay Bhike on Tuesday said regional parties such as Revolutionary Goans Party (RGP) was the real ‘B’ team of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and challenged RGP supremo Manoj Parab for a debate on the subject.

Bhike also said several regional parties mushroom on the eve of elections with the only intention to divide the secular votes.

“Some parties set shop only during the elections. They come three months before the election, splashes banners all over the place and more importantly divide the secular votes. RGP is one such party which is the actual ‘B’ team of the BJP,” Bhike said.

He also said he was ready to debate with the RGP supremo Manoj Parab at any time and on any platform.

The former North Goa District Congress Committee chief was addressing a news conference along with NGDCC President Virendra Shirodkar and other party leaders in the Congress office in Mapusa.

Speaking further, Bhike said the regional parties failed to take up any of the issues that have been threatening the survival of Goans in the recent past.

“Where was RGP during the burning Mhadei issue, double tracking issue or the issue of price rise which is hurting the common man? These parties were nowhere to be seen. It was only Congress that has been taking up issues of the common man,” he said.

He said this party has taken the overseas Goans for a ride by making false and unachievable promises only with an eye on their foreign remittances.

He said RGP was funded by the BJP to divide the secular votes so that the saffron party could come back to power and that’s what happened in the recent assembly elections.

The ex-NGDCC President said voters were yet to come to terms over the recent act of defection carried out by the eight Congress MLAs.

“These people have gone against the oath. People should not listen to them and never vote them to power again,” he said.

He said the Congress party will work with the three remaining MLAs to strengthen the party and work for the common man.
