Trying to clear the air over his association with the BJP, Independent Councillor Prakash Bhivshet representing Ward 20 said he has not joined the BJP but will support the ruling BJP-led group in the Mapusa Municipal Council in the interest of Mapusa, as a whole and the development of his ward in particular.
“As of now, I have not joined the BJP. But I am supporting the BJP-led council for the development of Mapusa and my ward,” Bhivshet said.
He said he would think about it when questioned whether he would join the saffron party at a later stage.
In the 20-member Mapusa Municipal Council, BJP-led Mapusa Development Front now has a strength of 13 councillors and the support of one independent.
Besides the nine councillors who were elected on the BJP-led panel, four councillors of Mapshekarancho Ekvott joined the BJP, taking their tally to 13.
The opposition-led panel of Mapshekarancho Ekvott has been left with a truncated number of five councillors who have decided to support the chairperson for the sake of Mapusa’s development.
The other Independent Councillor, Anand Bhaidkar of Ward 1 has not joined any group but has also decided to support the chairperson for the development of the town.
