BICHOLIM

On a day when fish vendors clashed with the government fish van in Ponda, a similar confrontation occurred at Bicholim when local fish vendors did not allow the government fish van to sell fish in the Bicholim market on Tuesday.

Trouble began when the government fish van vendors began selling fish at the Bicholim fish market at lower rates, thus attracting a large number of customers.

Left with hardly any buyers, agitated local fish vendors confronted the mobile fish van operators, and then reported the matter to Bicholim Municipal Council (BMC). Acting on their complaint, BMC Chief Officer Bhanudas Naik sent market inspector Sanjay Kharbe to handle the situation at the site.

During a discussion between BMC authorities and the government fish vendors, the BMC official asked them if they had obtained a No-Objection Certificate (NOC) from BMC to sell fish.

When the government fish vendors replied in the negative, the BMC official told them to take BMC's permission before selling fish in the area.

Left with no option, the government fish vendors left the market area and proceeded elsewhere to sell the fish.
