Multiple offences invoked against duo

Mapusa police have booked two youths for allegedly riding motorcycles recklessly and using the NH-66 one-way stretch near Guirim in Bardez as a race track, endangering the lives of commuters and creating panic among the public.
The accused have been identified as Samarth Vinayak Khorjuvekar of Tachibhat, Siolim, and Ayush Sanjay Deuskar of Bhatiwado, Parra.
Police said that on May 19 at around 1 am, the two accused allegedly rode their respective motorcycles – bearing registration numbers GA-01-Q-3841 and GA-01-F-0942 – in a rash and negligent manner at high speed along the NH-66 one-way road stretch from Tar Junction, Bastora, towards Guirim.
According to the complaint, the duo allegedly rode the motorcycles with a common intention, obstructing and wrongfully restraining the free movement of other commuters on the highway stretch.
Their actions allegedly caused nuisance, annoyance, and danger to the public while posing a serious threat to road safety. Police further stated that the motorcycles used by the accused were modified, creating loud noise and disturbance, which allegedly caused panic among members of the public and other road users.
Multiple offences have been invoked against the accused under Sections 281, 125 and 126(2), read with Section 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), Section 8(B) of the National Highways Act, Sections 184, 192, 179, 188 and 189 of the Motor Vehicles Act, and Section 34(3) of the Police Act.
Police said notices have been issued to both accused persons.
