Biodiversity office at Chopdem
PERNEM: Environmentalist Prof Rajendra Kerkar stated that there is a need to preserve traditional environment along with bio-diversity, as fields look beautiful than the villas in the agricultural land.
He was speaking during the inaugural function of the office of biodiversity division at Agarwaddo-Chopdem in the panachayt mini hall on Wednesday.
Speaking further, Kerkar said the tradition of making jaggery from toddy is getting extinct in Chopdem. “The process of making jaggery should be learnt and the business should be preserved,” said Kerkar.
Biodiversity Corporation officer Dr Nitin Sawant, Agarwaddo Sarpanch Shashikala Damaji, Deputy Sarpanch Eknath Chodankar, Panch Amol Raut, Pravbhakar Nagvekar, Bhagirath Gaonkar, Suman Khorjuvekar, Sudan Shetye and others were present.
