BJP against introduction of MoI bill in Goa Assembly

Strongly supporting the State Government’s decision on the issue of Medium of Instruction (MOI), the State Unit of Bharatiya Janata Party on Wednesday said it was not in favour of the government introducing the Bill in the Assembly.

VELINGKAR LAMBASTED

* Sawaikar invoked the Sangh lessons while snubbing Velingkar over his statements that both BJP and Parrikar were liars

* Sawaikar said a person like Velingkar, who is part of the Sangh, making statements against BJP and Parrikar is unfortunate

* This was not expected from him. It looks like the leader is losing his mental balance, said Sawaikar

* We had maintained patience during the last one year on the activities by BBSM, he said

We will go ahead with the formula that we have introduced. There will be no changes

PANAJI:

The BJP has, however, asked State Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) Chief Subhash Velingkar to join politics and take the issue of MOI to the people. The BJP also said that it was never part of Bharatiya Bhasha Suraksha Manch (BBSM) on the issue.

Addressing a press conference at BJP headquarters in Panaji, BJP General Secretary Narendra Sawaikar said, “The BJP in its 2012 election manifesto had promised an amicable solution to the issue of MOI. After talking to all the sections in the society, in 2014 BJP came up with a formula based on which grants to 132 schools were continued. We are making our stand very clear. We will go ahead with the formula that we have introduced. There will be no changes.”

Taking on Velingkar over his recent outburst against BJP, Velingkar advised him to get into active politics and take the issue of MOI to the people. Velingkar, it may be recalled, had said, “We will teach BJP a lesson and show them their place.\"

This issue is over now, Sawaikar said while adding, \"We will form the government in 2017 also and there will not be any change in our stand.\"

Strongly denying BJP being part of the BBSM agitation, Swaikar said, “Manohar Parrikar or even some others might have participated in the agitation to express personal opinion. As BJP, we were never a part of the BBSM agitation.”

When questioned about BJP MLAs participating in the BBSM public meetings at constituency-level, he said, “None of our MLAs will go for the meetings. We will even tell chief minister not to go for the meeting.”

“We will go ahead with the formula that we have introduced. There will be no changes. The decision on the bill will be taken by the select committee of the Assembly. As BJP our stand is that the bill should not be introduced in the assembly,” said Sawaikar.
