Reacting to the new Major Port Authorities Act, BJP State President Sadanand Tanavade on Monday said the State government would take all stakeholders, including fishing boat owners’ association, fishing community and all other stakeholders, into confidence while constructing jetties in the State.
“There is no uncertainty on jetties in Goa after the Major Port Authorities Act,” said Tanawade.
The MPA Act gives more autonomy to the port authority and it has powers to enter into contracts, undertake planning and development, fixing of tariff except in national interest, security and emergency arising out of inaction and default.
There has been widespread condemnation from fishing communities of the NCZMA’s decision to decline pleas by the State government and public for deletion of port limits from the CZMP.
