A little over two months after the party welcomed the 10 Congress MLAs in the party fold, the BJP leadership on Wednesday kicked off its ambitious exercise of holding joint meetings with the new MLAs and the party cadre to bring about harmonious functioning of the party in the respective constituencies.

Beginning with Cuncolim, the constituency represented by Clafacio Dias, party leaders descended at the south district office on Wednesday which brought together party workers comprising of former MLAs Rajan Naik and Arecio D’Souza and incumbent MLA Clafacio and his supporters from Cuncolim, Chandor, Guirdolim, Paroda, Macazana, Ambaulim and Balli.

Party organizing secretary Satish Dhond reassured the new MLAs and workers that they will all receive equal importance in the ruling party.

Dhond also assured the workers that the party will undertake development works in all the 27 constituencies without any discrimination.

He said the newcomers in the party need not worry and that the party does not discriminate on religious lines.

Deputy CM Chandrakant Kavlekar pointed out that the new MLAs expect the government to usher in development of their constituencies and exuded confidence that they will all receive full support from the government.

In his address, Clafacio reiterated why he quit the Congress to join the BJP and recalled how development work was stalled in Cuncolim by vested interests in a bid to let him down before the electorate. Ex-MP Narendra Sawaikar, Sadanand Tanavade and other party leaders were also present.  BJP leaders pointed out that similar joint meetings will take place in the remaining nine constituencies to bring about harmonious relations between the cadre and the new comers in the party.
