Facing a rebellion from a group of senior members led by ex-chief minister Laxmikant Parsekar and legislator Francis D’Souza, some members of BJP core committee on Saturday visited recuperating Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar at his Dona Paula residence. Although the meeting was a closely guarded secret, it is said the committee discussed the awkward political situation arising out of the induction of Sopte and Shirodkar into the party.
Ayush Minister Shripad Naik, Rajya Sabha MP and BJP state president Vinay Tendulkar, South Goa MP Narendra Sawaikar, vice president Datta Kholkar, secretary Sadanand Shet Tanawade, Treasurer Sanju Desai were the core committee members that visited CM.
A source present at the meeting said, “this was a planned core-committee meeting”. Laxmikant Parsekar, Rajendra Arlekar and Damu Naik also members of the core committee did not attend the meeting.
The discussion revolved around the way forward to tackle the internal rebellion by Parsekar and company.
The meeting also assumes significance after Shripad Naik on Friday had said a leadership change will have to be effected today or tomorrow. When asked about the meeting Vinay Tendulkar said that we visited CM to inquire about his health. Other issues were not discussed. CM’s health is much better.
“Today we just visited Parrikar. This was not a core committee meeting. Shripad Naik had not met CM for many days so all of us along with Naik went to see CM. We just inquired about his health and no other issue was discussed”, said Anant Shet Tanwade.
