The BJP on Tuesday abruptly dissolved the BJP Mahila Morcha Executive Committee headed by Sheetal Dattaprasad Naik.
The dissolution of the committee has been seen as the outcome of the rift between the Monserratte and Naik couples.
BJP MLA Atanasio Monserrate and his wife MLA Jeneffer Monserratte had alleged that Dattaprasad Naik and his wife Sheetal Naik have worked to defeat them.
Dattaprasad Naik resigned from the BJP and campaigned for Utpal Parrikar against Atanasio Monserrate and also supported Congress candidate Tony Rodrigues, who was contesting against Jennifer Monserrate.
While Sheetal Naik preferred to be with the BJP and has refuted allegations of working against the party candidates in Taleigao and Panaji constituencies.
After the narrow win in the Assembly elections, the Monserrate couple had openly alleged that Dattaprasad Naik and his wife Sheetal Naik worked against them. Jennifer Monserrate even danced before the house of Sheetal Naik during the victory rally.
Finally, acting on the pressure of the Monserrate couple, BJP has taken a step to dissolve the women's committee.
"The process to select the new executive committee will commence soon", said State BJP president Sadanand Shet Tanavade.
In October 2020, the charge of Mahila Morcha president was handed over to Sheetal Naik and as per the constitution of BJP, the committee serves for two years.
Sheetal Naik said that she had worked for the party, and out of eight constituencies she worked during Assembly elections, four candidates have won.
"I have been a loyal soldier of the party since the beginning. When no one dared to work in the Taleigao constituency against Monserrate, we kept the BJP flag high. I have been made a scapegoat. I am ready for this sacrifice for the party. I will continue to work for the party," said Sheetal Naik.
