Panaji: The BJP Goa launched a fresh membership drive with an aim to increase its members to 5 lakh, from 4 lakh registered during the last drive.
Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, along with BJP Goa President Sadanand Shet Tanavade, Union Minister Shripad Naik, and other party leaders, officially started the campaign today, being a part of ongoing pan-India drive.
The exercise called "Sadasyata Abhiyan," allows people to join the party by giving a missed call.
Speaking at a press conference held in the party head office a while ago, CM Sawant stated that while BJP was once seen as a North India-centric party, it is now expanding its presence in southern states, even managing to establish a foothold in Kerala.
Tanavade revealed that 31,000 new members joined between 5 pm and 8 pm on the first day of the drive.
He further stated that the first phase of the drive will conclude on September 25, with the entire process wrapping up by October, followed by internal party elections.
