Interacts with party workers and supporters in Margao, Fatorda and Navelim, seeks support to take up development works under MPLAD
MARGAO
The Bharatiya Janata Party’s juggernaut rolled into Salcete on Saturday as party South Goa candidate Pallavi Dempo with party leaders, hopped from one temple to another, offered prayers at the St Francis Xavier Chapel, before interacting with party workers in the three Assembly segments of Margao, Fatorda and neighbouring Navelim.
At all the three places, Pallavi reminded the party workers and supporters that she is the daughter of Margao, saying she was born in Aquem and completed her education in the city. She promised to set up an office in Margao and take up developmental works under the MPLAD funds with the guidance of the party workers and leaders.
Party leaders, including Congress-turned-BJP Margao MLA Digambar Kamat told the party workers that Pallavi is the candidate of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, insisting that Pallavi’s election will strengthen the hands of the Prime Minister to rule the country for the third consecutive term.
In a bid to boost the morale of the party workers, almost all the top leaders including State president Sadanand Tanavade, Margao MLA Digambar Kamat, Navelim MLA Ulhas Naik and others vowed to work for Pallavi’s success with a 50,000-plus vote margin.
Kamat in particular thundered that Margao would give Pallavi a lead of 10,000 votes, while his Navelim counterpart Ulhas Tuenkar asserted that the BJP will poll minimum 10,000 votes in the constituency.
Pallavi spent the entire day in the three constituencies, where the BJP is hoping to score big in the minority dominated taluka. She first made her presence at Fatorda, offering the sacred coconut at the Lord Damodar Temple before heading to the adjacent St Francis Xavier Chapel to seek blessings of the Almighty.
The juggernaut later wend its way into neighbouring Margao when Pallavi again offered the sacred coconut at Pimpalkatta, the seat of the presiding deity, Lord Dambab. She later had a short interaction with the women vendors.
Around noon, Pallavi with party leaders in tow headed to Monte Hill where she had an interaction with local residents. While extending them Ramzan wishes, Pallavi reminded that she was born and brought up in Margao and has always cherished the love and affection given to her by Madgavkars.
Aware that Margao MLA Digambar Kamat enjoys a stranglehold over the people of the area, Pallavi pointed out that the two families enjoy excellent relations. “Kamat has always been there with my family,” she said.
Referring to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s mission to take the country forward, Pallavi cited the schemes unveiled by Modi for the upliftment of the poor and the downtrodden, further reminding how Modi has fulfilled the long standing demand providing for 33 per cent reservations for women in Parliament and the State assemblies.
She thanked the BJP National leadership as well as the local party leadership for nominating her candidature for the South Goa seat.
Ex-MP Narendra Sawaikar, who addressed the workers, said it is the responsibility to elect Pallavi in order to make Narendra Modi the Prime Minister for the third time in a row. “People of the country want PM to return back for the third time. To ensure Modi’s return, we have to elect Pallavi from South Goa with a thumping majority,” Sawaikar said.
