The Crime Branch sleuths on Saturday busted a sextortion racket in the Calangute with five persons under its scanner.
The accused were tracked down after a group of tourists from Karnataka alleged that five men who promised to ‘provide girls’ at a club cheated them and instead extorted extra money.
“The complainants claimed that accused allegedly lured victims with promises of an alluring package at Samudra Club... Instead, they extorted Rs 18,300 from the complainant and his friends under false pretext,” the CB said.
The CB identified the accused as Arun Reddy, Mohan Rathod, Vinod Chavan, Tukaram Kumbhar, and Premsingh Chavan, all living in Goa and natives of Karnataka. The raiding team also found 12 girls in the club, however it is not known if the girls were rescued or the club raided.
The accused were issued summons for questioning while they applied for anticipatory bail which is pending hearing.
