BJP leaders urge Curtorkars to elect Barbosa

MARGAO

Senior BJP leaders on Friday made an impassioned plea to the people of Curtorim to vote and elect young party candidate Anthony Barbosa in the ensuing polls.

At an impressive meeting at Manora-Raia on Friday evening, senior BJP leader and former South Goa MP Narendra Sawaikar urged Curtorkars to elect Barbosa by voting for the Lotus symbol. Saying that only the BJP can usher in all round development of the State and Curtorim, Sawaikar said the people should elect the BJP candidate for the betterment of the constituency and the people.

“February 14 falls on Valentine’s day. I request all the people to shower their love for Anthony Barbosa by pressing the button on the Lotus symbol”, he said.

Addressing the meeting, BJP spokesman Urfan Mulla slammed the Congress and other parties for terming the BJP as a communal party. He appealed to all sections of the Curtorim electorate to rally behind the BJP and elect Anthony to the assembly.

In his address, former Raia Sarpanch Xavier Fernandes came down heavily on former MLA Reginaldo Lourenco for his appeal to the people to give him another chance to represent them in the assembly.

“The ex-MLA has asked for another term to complete the pending development. But, I want to ask him what he has done for the constituency during the last three terms”, he said.

Xavier pointed out the people of the Curtorim constituency are fortunate enough to get a candidate in Anthony Barbosa, who has been serving the people over the last several years.

In his address, Anthony thanked the BJP leadership for reposing their trust and faith in him by nominating him for the Curtorim seat. “I am indebted to the BJP for nominating a person from the downtrodden section of the society as the Curtorim candidate. This ticket is not just for me, but for the people”, he said, while seeking their support for his success.

Anthony recalled the work he has put in during the pandemic, recalled how he had put his life to risk by staying in the hospitals with patients.

He also outlined his vision to take football forward in the Curtorim constituency and to promote young blood in the sport.
