State Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has decided to invite suggestions from public on the theme ‘making Goa a model State’, which the party plans to incorporate in its manifesto for the upcoming State Legislative Assembly poll 2017.
BJP has decided to put up two vehicles for the two districts, which will visit every panchayat and collect suggestions from the public. Additionally, BJP will also launch a website, for the public to post their suggestions.
The manifesto committee of State BJP held its meeting under the chairmanship of Deputy Chief Minister Francis D’Souza at its headquarters in Panaji. Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar, Curchorem MLA Nilesh Cabral, BJP State President Vinay Tendulkar and other party office bearers. The newly joined Mauvin Godinho has also been appointed a member of the committee.
Speaking to media persons after the meeting, Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar said, “We had a detailed discussion about the manifesto. We have already taken decisions on certain issues. Also, the meeting has resolved to invite suggestions from across the State while doing the manifesto. Two vehicles will move in both the districts across all panchayats and municipalities and collect the suggestions.”
Nonetheless, the Committee also carried out a detailed scrutiny of BJP’s 2012 manifesto.
“The scrutiny was done so that if anything is remaining it could be done in the future. But most of the things have either been completed or taken up," said Parsekar.
Committee Chairman Deputy Chief Minister Francis D’Souza said, “Our theme is making Goa a model State. So, whatever is needed those will be a part of the manifesto. This is a dream of our Prime Minister Narendra Modi as well as of the Goans.”
Questioned on whether any of the promises made in the last manifesto which are not fulfilled will be dropped, he said, “People have accepted that certain things are difficult for a small state like Goa. We can make Goa a model state which is also like a special status. With local laws we can regulate a lot of things.”
Parsekar was however of the opinion that special status should have been asked for by the State when Goa was given the Statehood.
“Probably it was possible to get special status when statehood was bestowed. How can we ask for a special status when we are already getting first place everywhere?," he said.
