Addressing the media, Monteiro said that while the Railway Ministry has cleared five overbridges in Salcete due to efforts of South Goa MP Narendra Sawaikar in the 2016-17 railway budget, the long-pending overbridge at Chandor has been neglected by the BJP government, leading to resentment amongst the people of Cuncolim constituency.
He pointed out that promises made by then Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar and Cuncolim MLA Rajan Naik to construct the overbridge at the Chandor railway crossing has only remained on paper. “Four years have passed and there’s still no sign of the construction of the promised overbridge despite the fact that people had voted for the BJP in Cuncolim,” Monteiro added.
He recalled that former Cuncolim MLA Joaquim Alemao had promised to construct the overbridge at Chandor and had to face the wrath of the people in the 2012 Assembly elections.
He urged the people not to fall prey to the assurances of the BJP government and Alemao and appealed to them to back him in the coming poll to fulfill the demand.
