BJP summons Calangute MLA over criticism of withdrawal of bills

PANAJI

MLA Michael Lobo’s public criticism over the withdrawal of bills in the legislative assembly has not gone well with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) which has decided to summon him.

BJP State President Sadanand Shet Tanavade expressed displeasure over Lobo’s decision to air his grievances publicly rather than addressing them internally. “Michael made an incorrect public statement. If he had concerns, he should have approached the party leadership instead of speaking out publicly. He could have spoken to Chief Minister (Pramod Sawant) or me directly...He called me yesterday and I advised him to speak with me today (Tuesday),” Tanavade told reporters on Tuesday.

Insisting on party discipline, Tanavade said the party leaders hear grievances where everyone’s views are considered. Lobo had commented that despite the BJP’s 33-seat majority in the 40-member assembly, the introduction and subsequent withdrawal of four bills indicated that “all is not well” within the party.

Tanavade has asked all leaders to maintain the decorum of the party.
