A confident Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has decided to face the upcoming assembly election in the State on its own and will not seek an alliance with other parties.
Senior party leaders, including Chief Minister Pramod Sawant and Party State President Sadanand Tanavade, have chalked out a programme to visit all constituencies in the State within the next few months.
“As on date, the party has decided to contest elections on its own and has the confidence that we will win with the support of people,” said Tanavade at a news conference in Panaji on Monday.
“The BJP will follow a systematic approach to face the elections. Central party leaders like BJP National President J P Nadda, BJP Mahila Morcha National President Vanathi Srinivasan and its General Secretary Sukhpreet Kaur visited the State and held meetings with office bearers of different wings of the party.”
“From Tuesday, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant and I will visit around 22 constituencies till September 3 and after Ganesh Chaturthi, visits to the remaining constituencies will follow,” said Tanavade.
Asked how they would face the people regarding the Bhumiputra bill and other issues, Tanavade said they would address all queries of party workers and people to create a connect during these visits.
“Some issues have been blown out of proportion by the media also,” said Tanavade.
Tanavade said while he would interact mainly with party functionaries in constituencies, the CM would hold day-long meetings and interactions with party workers and the people.
Tanavade said Sawant would visit nine constituencies of Saligao, Savordem, Sanguem, Mandrem, Mayem, Bicholim, Siolim, Fatorda and Shiroda, while he would visit 12 constituencies of Sankhali, Quepem, Aldona, Cuncolim, Tivim, Curchorem, Dabolim, Pernem, St Cruz, Cumbarjua, Mormugao and Vasco.
