Taxi operators have challenged the State government’s decision on the mandatory fixing of digital fare meters for taxis before the High Court. The petition will be taken up for hearing on August 10 (Tuesday).
Goa Private Bus Owners Association General Secretary Sudip Tamhankar, Mohamad Khan and Piyush Nelson have filed the petition in the court. The State government, transport secretary and director of transport have been made parties to it.
The petitioners have demanded that taxi operators should not be forced to install digital fare meters and GPS meters. Instead, the taxi business should be managed by a digital app, they added.
The Travel and Tourism Association of Goa had filed a petition demanding that taxi fares be regulated in the State and the government later decided to fit digital fare meters on taxis.
The taximen have been consistently at loggerheads with the government on the issue.
