Nearly 35 government and aided undergraduate colleges offering non-professional degree courses in Goa will be releasing their admission merit lists on Tuesday.
According to the Directorate of Higher Education (DHE) the lists will be uploaded by the colleges on their websites and counselling for admissions will commence from Wednesday.
The DHE also released Helpdesk nos 9511833067 / 0832-2415585 in case students have queries.
The high pass percentage thrown up by the Goa Board’s pandemic dictated assessment criteria has led to a mismatch between demand for seats and the intake capacities of these colleges forcing the DHE to streamline the admission process centrally via an online portal.
In the first round held between July 20 and August 3, students mentioned their first, second and third choice colleges they wish to enrol in after which the data was relayed to each college to crunch the numbers and compute a merit list for admission.
DHE officials, however, have assured that all students will eventually get accommodated after many students forego their seats and instead opt for professional and technical degree courses based on their scores in the Goa Common Entrance Test (GCET) and other national competitive exams such as NEET and IIT-JEE.
The government will also permit the undergraduate colleges offering non-professional degree courses of BSc, BA, BCom and the IT-oriented Bachelor of Computer Application (BCA) and Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) to increase their intake to accommodate all.
The DHE will assess the position of seats filled or vacant after this first round of admission and then open the second round of centralised admission process.
Nearly 11,500 students have applied for a degree seat but DHE officials said, a chunk of them are expected to forfeit their claim and instead opt for professional degree courses based on their scores at GCET and later at the NEET and IIT-JEE, besides other autonomous institutions such as BITS.
