BJP was celebrating its poor mandate, chides Congress

AICC says other reason for celebration was Parrikar’s demotion

PANAJI
Congress on Monday questioned BJP’s reason for celebration with their national party president Amit Shah and union minister Nithin Gadkari when they had not received a majority mandate to form the government. They also asked why the state government had not listed its common minimum programme yet.
Speaking to media persons on Monday, All India Congress Committee secretary Girish Chodankar said Sunday’s rally was not one of victory but a forceful celebration that was against the people of Goa.
“The reason for BJP’s celebration was not because they beat the Congress, but to exult at the loss of many constituencies. The other reason was to celebrate Parrikar’s demotion from a high rank as country’s defence minister to the state’s chief minister,” he said.
Meanwhile, Goa Pradesh Congress Committee general secretary Yatish Naik pointed to the new coalition government not having the promised common minimum programme in place even after a month.
“Important issues including the Industrial Promotion Board, 80 percent employment for Goan youth in private sector, casinos, special status, nationalization of rivers and medium of instruction are yet to be decided as part of the common minimum programe,” said Naik.
After BJP allied with the Goa Forward and MGP, a decision was taken to form a common minimum programme that would take care of issues each party had raised during their campaigns. Incidentally all the issues raised were against decisions the BJP took during its last term.
Naik also said the government was incohesive as was clear on the issue of the regional plan. “Parrikar had promised on the floor of the house that the regional plan would be ready by December but his own minister for TCP later said it was not possible,” he said.
On the issue of ex-Congressman Vishwajeet Rane, Chodankar said the party would take a decision on banning him only studying legal implications. As as far as the presence of Rane at Sunday’s event, Chodankar said, “We pity him because his name was not even mentioned during thanking and he was made to sit in one corner.”

Respected Mr Chief Minister,   At an outset please accept my good wishes for forming the government, and being chosen as a leader, in spite of a negative referendum for your party. It shows your party’s astute political acumen in comparison to your opponents.   We are also pleased that an intelligent and well educated person such as you, who has tremendous amount of love and affection for “Goa” now being branded as “Goenkarponn”, has taken over the reins…
