MARGAO
With the Election Commission of India (ECI) unveiling the scheduled for the Lok Sabha elections, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Saturday announced that the BJP will announce party candidate for the South Goa seat within the next two days.
Reminding the women that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has passed the Bill for 33 per cent reservation of seats for the Assembly and Lok Sabha seats, the Chief Minister congratulated the women in advance as they would be part of the Goa Legislative Assembly in the near future.
Addressing party women karyakartas at the South Goa BJP office on Saturday, the Chief Minister urged the BJP women to even go to the pro-Congress houses and explain them the various schemes unveiled by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the last 10 years in power.
The interaction with the women karyakartas was attended by WRD Minister Subhash Shirodkar, Margao MLA Digambar Kamat, ticket contenders for the South Goa seat, ex-MP Narendra Sawaikar and ex-Dy CM Chandrakant Kavlekar, besides mahila leaders.
The Chief Minister to the women karyakartas is simple “ go to every house, including the pro-Congress voters and explain the PM’s schemes for various sections of society, including women. “Arm yourself with statistics of the schemes introduced by the Prime Minister and explain in details these schemes to the voters,” he said.
Turning his tirade on the sitting Congress MP Francisco Sardinha, the Chief Minister said the South Goa MP had never returned to the constituency after his election in 2019. “Many people still believe that Narendra Sawaikar is still the South Goa MP. This is because the Congress MP had failed to make his presence felt in the villages and deliver the goods,” Sawant said.
In his address, Congress-turned-BJP Margao MLA Digambar Kamat said that women play a major role in every election in bringing out the voters to vote on Election Day. He said the BJP workers need not paint the other candidates in the fray in bad light since the ruling party is going to the electorate with a performance chart. “Our entire focus in the coming election campaign should be on PM Narendra Modi’s performance and the performance of the Goa government and convince the people why they should vote for the return of Modi on the PM’s Chair for the third time in a row,” Kamat said.
Saying that women had helped to elect and also dislodge governments in the past, Kamat said the BJP would romp home with a victory in South Goa if the women work hard for the success of the party.
