A woman was killed and five children were seriously injured after a mini-truck carrying around 15 occupants went off the road and fell near a culvert on the NH-66 at Hordem near Balli late Saturday night.
The injured children were rushed to the South Goa District hospital from where they were shifted to the Goa Medical College, Bambolim late night.
Social Welfare Minister Subhash Phal Dessai who was returning home from Canacona with Chief Minister Pramod Sawant after a party programme rushed to the South Goa District Hospital to oversee the situation.
He told the media at the hospital that the mini truck was carrying around 15 occupants and cashew bags when the vehicle severed off the road and landed near the culvert.
He said since he and the Chief Minister reached the spot just minutes after the accident, they could mobilise the agencies in the rescue operations.
The minister said a woman was brought to the district hospital in a very critical condition. Cuncolim PI Diogo Gracias informed one woman who was travelling in the mini truck has expired.
