Water Resources Department (WRD) Minister Subhash Shirodkar has said the government is working to augment supply of potable water from the existing 800 MLD to 1000 MLD by 2025.
He told The Goan on the sidelines of a BJP programme for women karyakartas at the South Goa district BJP office on Saturday that Chief Minister Pramod Sawant has given the go ahead signal and had promised to arrange funds to augment the water supply so that people are supplied water for minimum eight hours a day.
The WRD Minister said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had recently launched the project to increase water supply from the Selaulim water project by additional 100MLD. “This project would see light of the day in the next one-two years which will help improve the water supply to the people of South Goa,” he said.
Besides, Shirodkar said the government has embarked on a project to tap 250 MLD of water at Sal from the river Chapora by 2025.
“These two projects, besides minor projects at Shiroda and other villages will help augment water supply to the State. All these projects will help improve water supply to the people in the next one to two years,” he added.
