Refuting the perception that it will be a close call in Mapusa by-election, BJP candidate, Joshua D’Souza said he expected to continue the winning streak of BJP in Mapusa and maintain the margin of 2017 assembly polls.
“I don’t think it will be a close call. Based on how BJP has performed in the last couple of terms we have always emerged victorious with quite a huge margin. I am hoping we maintain the same margin as the previous 2017 assembly election,” D’Souza told The Goan.
The BJP candidate was addressing a news conference along with Chairperson, Ryan Braganza and former chairpersons, Sandip Falari and Rohan Kavlekar and BJP mandal president, Damodar Lanjekar on Friday.
Speaking further, D’Souza said the opposition campaign will not make much of an impact on his prospects because people were extremely positive and supportive towards him.
“Being Francis D’Souza’s son has helped me. Being a BJP candidate has also helped me a lot. The overall campaign was very positive,” he said.
He further said that wherever he went the supporters were very kind and encouraging.
“They would hug me and remind me how they used to go to Babush for help. They expected the same service from me,” he said.
The BJP candidate said the only issue he faced in his campaign was lack of time, as he could not cover a few pockets but vowed to visit the people again after the elections.
He thanked the BJP mandal, chairperson and councilors who backed him and helped him in the campaign.
“I would like to thank everyone for showing love and concern during the campaign,” he said.
He said he will stick to his promise to take up all development works within a set timeframe and fulfill all the promises made in the manifesto.
Chairperson, Ryan Braganza said the campaign was complete in all respect and BJP’s manifesto and pamphlets were distributed to every household in Mapusa.
“More than 50 percent of voters in Mapusa are youngsters and the young voter connects with our candidate who is youthful. I think we are comfortable and will touch 13,000 mark,” Braganza said.
He also said all ruling councilors were together and were working for the victory of the BJP candidate in Mapusa.
BJP Mandal President, Damodar Lanjekar appealed to voters to come out in large numbers and vote for the BJP candidates of North Goa Lok Sabha and assembly
by-elections.
