Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, who welcomed the eight Congress MLAs into his Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Wednesday, said there is no decision taken as yet on a possible cabinet reshuffle to accommodate some of them.
"The merger of these eight MLAs is unconditional," Sawant said at a crowded press conference he addressed at the party headquarters in the city, flanked by his BJP State president Sadanand Tanavade and all the eight MLAs.
Sawant sought to push the narrative that it is national politics rather than local State issues that prompted the move.
“I welcome the 8 MLAs who have joined today. Congress has started the ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra’, but ‘Congress Chhodo Yatra’ has started in Goa. People from across the country are leaving the Congress and joining the BJP,” Sawant said.
"The BJP with its strength will now win both the Lok Sabha seats -- North and South Goa. From Kanyakumari to Kashmir it will win 400 seats... Narendra Modi will become Prime Minister again in 2024 for the third time," Sawant added.
