As Cumbarjua MLA Rajesh Faldessai finally joined the BJP along with other Congress MLAs, the MLA said it was the people who forced him to switch sides to undertake development works in the constituency.
When contacted by The Goan, Faldessai defended his decision to leave the Congress party.
“The people forced me to join BJP as they wanted development works in the constituency. If I had remained in the opposition, then it would have resulted in wastage of five years due to which people told me to switch sides to be in the ruling,” he said.
When asked about the development works he intends to bring in his constituency, Faldessai pointed out that there is a need of flyovers, overbridges, beautification of Old Goa, Carambolim lake beautification, flyover from SFX Old Goa to Montfort Institute, Cumbarjua bridge, resolution to ferry problems among others.
“I have prepared a list of other development works as well which I want to complete in my tenure,” the MLA stated.
Asked what would now be his position vis-Ã -vis the Bainguinim waste plant, Faldessai claimed that he would always oppose the Bainguinim plant.
“I will continue opposition to the plant as people are opposed to it. Also I will oppose the illegal structure at Old Goa,” Faldessai added.
When asked whether he would be made a minister, Faldessai said he has joined BJP of his own free will to ensure development of Cumbarjua.
“I have not gone to BJP with demands. I have gone of my own free will to fulfil the development works of the constituency,” he added.
