Verna Veterans trounced Candolim Veterans 5-0 to enter the quarterfinals of the Varca Veterans Cup football tournament at Varca football ground on Wednesday.
Dominating the entire match, Verna scored four goals through Seby Vaz while Minguel D’Souza netted one goal. Caitan Xavier was presented with the Man of the match award
Navelim Sporting storm into semis
Navelim Sporting Club secured a berth in the semifinals defeating Cuncolim Union 3-1 in the 47th Chandor Seamen Trophy football tournament at Chandor ground on Wednesday.
Cuncolim did not even have the time to settle down when Prestly Gomes of Navelim tapped home a cross from the right wing in the 2nd minute. Navelim's Roven Pereira made it 2-0 off a cross from Preston Costa in the 21st minute. Mezvon Oliveira pulled a goal back for Cuncolim in the 30th minute. Navelim led 2-1 at the break.
Clinton Niasso scored in the 66th minute to seal the tie for Navelim. Navelim Sporting will meet Chandor Club in the semifinals on September 17.
