BJP’s plan to table no-confidence without assessing chairperson’s work questioned

Ganashyam says let BJP explain why the party plans to remove him from office

BJP’s plan to table no-confidence without assessing chairperson’s work questioned

MARGAO
With the BJP-backed councillors expected to table a no-confidence motion by next week, newly-elected Margao Municipal Chairperson Ganashyam Shirodkar on Saturday said let the BJP explain to Madgavkars and Fatordekars why the party has drawn up plans to remove him from office without watching his performance.

In fact, Ganashyam said the opposition in the MMC ought to have given him at least six months to prove himself as the civic chief before planning to table a no-confidence motion. “I have heard that the BJP-backed councillors have all signed the no-confidence motion. I will cross the bridge when it comes,” he said, when asked how he and the Goa Forward party will grapple with the proposed no-confidence motion.

“I have no problem if a no-confidence motion is brought against me. But, let them explain to the people why they are bringing the motion before I could start my work and I am not wanted on the chair. Don’t try to destabilise the Council because of party politics,” he said.

Making a fervent plea to his fellow councillors not to fall prey to party politics and support him in taking the commercial capital forward, Ganashyam requested the City Fathers and the government to give him at least 100 days and take a call based on his performance.

Ganashyam said he will take the support of Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, besides the MLAs to address the issues plaguing the commercial capital.
