Blacklist contractors who default in executing devp works: South Goa ZP

MARGAO
South Goa Zilla Panchayat members have called for blacklisting of contractors, who default in executing the development works after being issued the work orders.

The ZP members have also called for a hike in funds for disaster management as well as for sports activities in the 25 constituencies.

At the ZP meeting chaired by South Goa Chairperson Suvarna Tendulkar on Friday, the members have called upon the ZP administration to ensure that the contractors execute the works as per the time-frame or blacklist the defaulters.

The issue came to the fore after Curtorim ZP member Michele Rebello drew attention of Chairperson Tendulkar and the Chief Executive Officer, Manuel Barretto how a contractor, who was awarded the work of building a volleyball court in her constituency has been playing truant. She pointed out that the contractor has dumped the construction material on the volleyball court without commencing the work.

Navelim ZP member Cipru Cardozo also echoed similar sentiments by saying that a work tendered in his constituency has not been completed by the contractor. CEO Barretto has promised to look into the matter and initiate action.

The Curtorim ZP member also raised the issue of traffic barricades with the name of a casino promoter being erected in Curtorim, pointing out that the barricades will send a wrong message to the young minds. She also demanded that the authorities, including the district Collector, South issue directions to the concerned authorities, to ensure there’s no outbreak of dengue in the scrapyards housed in the Nessai industrial estate.

Benaulim ZP member Hanzel raised the issue of tourists driving in a rash and negligent manner on the narrow roads of Benaulim. He demanded that the traffic police maintain a strict vigil on tourist vehicles to ensure they do not drink and drive the vehicles and put the lives of the locals at risk.

Nuvem ZP member Assuciana raised the issue of the pathetic condition of the anganwadis in her constituency. She also called for installation of CCTV surveillance cameras near the traffic signals to keep track of traffic violators jumping the signals.

Sancoale ZP member Adv Anita Thorat urged the Chairperson and the CEO to do the follow up with the concerned departments, fearing that resolutions adopted by the ZP body would remain only on paper for want of follow up.

Chairperson Tendulkar later told the media that the ZP has received a total of Rs 22-odd crore from the government since the last one year to take up development works in South Goa. She said the ZP body has floated tenders to take up over 240-odd projects in the constituency.
