A portion of a house belonging to Tulxi Adkonkar caught fire at Goulembhat-Chimbel, on Sunday evening, damaging the roof completely while also damaging valuables like gold, cupboards, clothes, furnitures and other items.
According to a local Pandurang Shirodkar, some residents noticed fire billowing out of the upper portion of the house and immediately the neighbours began the job of bringing the fire under control.
“The neighbours used buckets of water to ensure that the fire did not spread to the entire house. They also ensured that the LPG cylinders were secured,” Shirodkar said and added that the fire brigade was also notified of the incident.
Shirodkar informed that at the time of the incident, the family members were not present as they had gone to attend some function.
On being notified of the incident, the Old Goa fire tender led by duty officer Amit Revonkar reached the spot and began the firefighting exercise. The fire was finally brought under control after more than two hours.
However, the exact cause of the fire could not be ascertained as well as the total loss incurred in the incident. But the family members informed that it could be around Rs 4 lakh.
Chimbel panch Laxman Adkonkar, who is a relative of the house owner, also arrived at the spot to take stock of the situation.
