BICHOLIM
Talking to media persons, BMC Chairperson Satish Gaonkar admitted that the parking system in Bicholim was not being followed despite proper parking areas earmarked in the town. “This has led to traffic congestion and hence, the council has decided to take strict action to enforce discipline among motorists,” said Gaonkar.
“The council has decided to remove all heavy vehicles parked along the Bicholim bypass to facilitate smooth flow of traffic. Only cars will be allowed to park along the bypass road within the earmarked area. At present, cars are parked at places marked for two-wheelers and vice-versa, which is a matter of concern” added Gaonkar.
He added that the State government has sanctioned Rs 10 crore for the development of BMC area and the BMC has decided to widen the road between Vhalshim and the KTC bus stand, including the bypass road.
“There should also be a path for pedestrians to walk freely and hence, it is necessary to undertake road widening work,” the BMC chairman said.
