Internal assessment of Class X students from the current 2024-25 academic year is poised to become more objective for all subjects.
The Goa Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education (GBSHSE) has, from this year, mandated that this assessment will have to be activity-based, including writing (literary) and other innovative activities.
The move is intended to hone different skills of students and, according to GBSHSE chairman Bhagirath Shetye, it will also improve their intellect and thinking power.
The internal assessment activities introduced this year include researching, presentation (PPT), use of audio-visual media, facilitation, interviewing, dramatics (street plays), and filmmaking.
For languages, the internal marks will be awarded based on students’ reading, writing, conversation, presentation skills, and listening ability.
Shetye said it will make it easier to assess how much of the subject the student has understood and whether he has an interest and aptitude for it.
The activity-based learning method will also provide students with opportunities outside of the school campus environs.
To illustrate an example, in the Konkani language subject, one activity prescribed is to create a seven-minute audio-visual clip that includes information about religious, cultural, and historical places in Goa, weekly markets, festivals, and fairs.
Other activities prescribed are composing poems and presenting them, elocution, and storytelling.
Other group activities that can be chosen are drama, traditional games, folk dance, street drama, and debate.
