Part relief for Panjimites: St Inez and central city roads to open on Mon, Tue

PANAJI

Finally, residents of Panaji and commuters who come to the capital daily will get some relief from Monday with at least two roads in the St Inez area and some others in central Panaji set to be opened for traffic after several months.

Imagine Panaji Smart City Development Limited (SPCDL) said three roads in the St Inez area which were closed to execute the Smart City work, will be opened for traffic on Tuesday (May 28).

It also said that work on some critical roads in central Panaji is also completed and these will be ready for use from Monday..

The Dada Vaidya Road from Singbal Book Store to Mahalaxmi Temple was opened on Sunday itself at 7 pm while the Heliodoro Salgado Road from Alfran Plaza to Orion Building in the market area will open on Monday at 7 pm.

A third road in Central Panaji -- General Bernardo Guedes Road “ from the Woodland Store to Geeta Bakery and around to the Government Printing Press will also be opened by 7 pm on Monday, IPSCDL said.

Meanwhile, in the St Inez area, the road from the Taj Vivanta junction to the T-junction at the western end of the St Inez cemetery and further on to the PWD Tonca office will also be opened on Tuesday at 9 pm.

These roads had been shut to execute the sewerage and ‘smart road’ projects inconveniencing residents as well as commuters for several months.

The opening of these roads will ease to some extent the traffic chaos triggered by the ongoing work although several other critical inlets and outlets of Panaji continue to be shut.

The road from Vivanta Junction to Sheetal Hotel, which is one of the main roads connecting Panaji to St Inez and further on to Taleigao, had been shut for over three months.

This led to vehicle users taking the alternative route leading to frequent traffic jams along the Dayanand Bandodkar road.

May 31 is the deadline set by the Bombay High Court at Goa for IPSCDL to finish all work and open all the roads across Panaji.
