The NCP youth wing has requested Goa Board to take a quick decision on the issue of promoting students who had failed in the Std 12 board examination in previous years and who had applied to reappear in the exams this year.
In a press note, NCP Youth Working President Yashpal Raikar stated that students of Std 12 who had failed in the examination conducted by Goa Board previous years and who had applied for the Board examination to be held in 2021 and were issued hall tickets have not been included in the promotion process.
“Of around 850 students of Std 12 who had failed previous years and applied for re-examination this year, 408 students had failed in one subject, 237 students in two subjects and the rest in more than 3 subjects.”
“Due to the Covid pandemic, the Goa Board did not conduct the examination for Std 12 this year and instead, they decided to promote 99.60% of students assessing their performance on the basis of past three years assessment as reference,” stated Raikar.
Raikar claimed that these 850 students have been excluded from the promotion process and the future of these students hangs in the balance.
“The parents of these students are quite upset over the promotion process adopted by the Goa Board. Many parents and students are in touch with me regarding this issue and want the education minister and Goa Board Chairman to look into this matter immediately and include these students in the promotion process and declare their results.”
He stated that the admission process in colleges for 2021 has begun and most seats in colleges were on the verge of getting full.
“If the decision of these students is not taken quickly by the Goa Board, these students will lose one more academic year. Recently, the Bihar government in a similar situation had decided to promote all students who had failed in less than two subjects. The same policy can be adopted by the government of Goa,” said Raikar.
Raikar said their delegation had met the Governor on July 22 and had discussed the issue with him.
“The governor heard us patiently and asked to make a written representation and assured to look into the matter,” Raikar added.
